Sustainable Food and Fibre Production | A Nutrien Ag Solutions Initiative

YEAR 7-12

Supporting students to learn about Australian agriculture’s role in sustainability.

Explore a series of sustainable agriculture-focused educational materials and resources designed for secondary-aged students (Years 7-12) in Australia. These resources align with the Australian Curriculum across the learning areas of Design and Technologies, Science, and Geography and senior secondary State and Territory Agriculture and Geography curricula. They aim to enhance students’ understanding of sustainable agriculture practices and equip them with the knowledge and skills to explore food and fibre opportunities, embrace innovation, and make informed decisions about agricultural products. They have been developed by PIEFA (Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia) in partnership with Nutrien Ag Solutions^TM.

Teacher Guides and Student Activities

Teacher guides have been developed to provide support for experienced educators, newly qualified teachers, and those teaching outside their primary subject area. Designed to be versatile, the student activities can be completed digitally on student devices or printed for hard-copy use. Students will view engaging videos, participate in practical tasks, complete data analysis and learn about Australian case studies with easy to access clickable links. Sample answers are also provided to help teachers assess and guide student progress.

CARD GAME

The Sustainability Challenge Game is designed to engage students in understanding and addressing challenges in sustainable food and fibre production with an Australian focus. Through collaborative, hands-on card games, students will explore sustainability issues, select innovative solutions, and learn about critical careers and technologies in the industry. These activities foster teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while aligning with curriculum content to build knowledge in sustainability, science, and technologies.

CAREERS VIDEOS

These curriculum-aligned career videos showcase diverse roles in Australia’s food and fibre supply chain. Featuring interviews with industry professionals, the videos highlight responsibilities, collaboration, problem-solving, and future trends in agriculture. Designed to inspire students, the series emphasises the importance of social, economic, and environmental sustainability while exploring exciting career opportunities shaping Australia’s agricultural future.

PRIMEZONE ACADEMY COURSES

Access two interactive online Primezone Academy courses designed to provide an introductory overview of the key concepts from the Year 7-8 and Year 9-10 lesson guides.

These self-paced courses include multimedia resources, quizzes and digital activities that aim to spark curiosity and prepare students for deeper exploration of content during the Sustainable Food and Fibre Production classroom lessons.
