National Science Week
Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology
National Science Week highlights the importance of science and technology, inspiring curiosity, discovery and innovation across the country each August. It provides an opportunity for students and educators to explore the many ways science influences our everyday lives — including the science behind Australia’s food and fibre industries.
From understanding how plants grow and animals are raised, to exploring sustainability, technology and innovation, science plays a vital role in producing the food we eat and the fibres we use every day. Each year PIEFA will provide a range of free classroom resources designed to help Australian educators connect students with the science, research and innovation shaping the future of food and fibre production.

🌾 National Science Week 2025 | Decoding the Universe
National Science Week 2025 invited students and educators to explore the mysteries of our world through the lens of nature’s hidden language – mathematics and quantum science. The theme, Decoding the Universe, highlighted how these fundamental tools help us understand natural systems and power technologies that shape our everyday lives.
PIEFA brought this theme to life through the lens of food and fibre production – one of Australia’s most vital and innovative industries. From GPS-guided tractors to climate-smart farming and genetically mapped crops, agriculture is a living example of how maths and science are used to decode complex systems and solve real-world challenges.
