Waterways: Behaviour Change

As individuals, we hold the power to make a difference in the health of our waterways. From coastlines to rivers, lakes to swamps, creeks to floodplains, billabongs to estuaries, our actions have a significant impact on the cleanliness of these important ecosystems. In this engaging and empowering teacher resource, students will learn about the importance of protecting our waterways and the role they can play in making a positive impact.

This learning activity is the first in a two-part series, with a focus on “clean-up”. Students will dive into the issue of water pollution and explore the ways in which everyday habits, such as the use of single-use plastics, contribute to the problem. They will then have the opportunity to take action and put their newfound knowledge into practice through a fun and educational clean-up event.

The second part of the series focuses on “behaviour change”. In this lesson, students will reflect on their clean-up experience and learn about the lasting impact of small changes in their daily habits. They will investigate ways to limit their use of single-use plastics and inspire others to do the same, becoming “watershed warriors” and champions for a cleaner, healthier future for our waterways.

Incorporating hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for reflection, this teacher resource offers a comprehensive approach to educating students about the importance of waterway conservation and the role they can play in making a difference. So join us on this journey to become “Watershed Warriors” and protect our precious waterways!
