SFIRP | Career Q&A Sessions Digital Learning Kits

Help your students step into agriculture with these classroom resources designed for year 7-10 students. Developed for PIEFA’s SFIRP Program, these Career Q&A Digital Learning Kits have been designed to showcase the diverse career pathways and opportunities within agriculture. Each kit contains 3 videos and an associated resource. Eight Digital Learning Kits will be released, each relating to a theme shown in the Career Pathway Poster.

Career Q&A Digital Learning Kits | Choose from 8 themes

  1. Traditional Farming (grains, cattle, cotton)

    This theme encompasses career roles involved in broadacre farming, particularly focusing on cotton production systems. Broadacre farming typically involves large-scale production in regional areas.

  2. Vertical Farming

    This is relatively new production method where food is produced in urban areas in controlled environments, typically in a stacked formation with the use of artificial lightening. New and exciting careers are associated with vertical framing are discussed.

  3. Peri-Urban Farming

    This production system is typically intensive production close to cities managed by one or two people.

  4. Unusual Farming

    This theme highlights some of the lesser-known food production systems and highlights some native plant production.

  5. Robotic Farming

    The use of robotic farming techniques and associated careers are discussed

  6. Water Farming

    Food production systems and associated careers where produce is farmed in water is discussed.

  7. Education Farming

    Careers associated with education within agriculture are highlighted.

  8. Protein Farming

    The use of alternative sources of protein like farming insects and associated careers are discussed.

The PowerPoint presentation provides a handy tool for teachers to introduce students to the variety of roles available within the agricultural sector and get them thinking about how their interests may align with certain areas and positions. While the first few slides are specific to the NSW curriculum, this PowerPoint can be used in classrooms right across the country.
