ForestLearning | The Sustainable Seating Project

ForestLearning and the Design and Technologies Teachers Association of Victoria (DATTA Vic) have collaborated to create an extensive set of eight lessons that are specifically tailored to Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum Years 7-8 Design and Technologies.

Within these lessons, students will delve into an exploration of various materials, focusing on cardboard, and gain an understanding of their properties and sustainability. They will also delve into the significant role that sustainable forest management plays in the production of wood pulp for the manufacturing of cardboard.

To provide an immersive experience, ForestVR 360° videos will be used, enabling students to embark on virtual excursions to an Australian pine plantation and a paper mill. Through these excursions, students will witness the entire life cycle of sustainable wood fibre production and its subsequent transformation into paperboard.

By following the design thinking process, students will engage in activities that involve investigation, design conceptualisation, production, and evaluation. They will be tasked with creating a sustainable seat using upcycled cardboard, ensuring that their design aligns with principles of sustainability.
