ForestLearning | BTS ForestVR videos!

Ta-da! Get a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of ForestLearning’s filming for the new ForestVR videos!

In these BTS videos, forester Rex Flinn takes us on a tour of the mixed eucalypt Barakula State Forest in southern central Queensland:

  • Spotted gum trees have smooth, thick bark adapted to fire events and open sparse crowns to reduce water loss.
  • The outer bark sheds as the tree grows, leaving the smooth, thick corky bark that extends right up into the branches protecting the tree from the heat of bushfires.
  • Trees around Australia have adapted to their environments in many wonderful ways!

This ForestVR experience, due for release later this year, will take students on 360-degree virtual tours of these forests to look for clues about their adaptations. Students will also learn how foresters use science to sustainably manage forests today and for all future generations.

This and other ForestVR experiences will join the new suite of classroom tools focussing on Australian forests, which include: Forest Science Explorers, where Primary classrooms can explore forest adaptations; Agroforestry virtual tours of Australia to explore the benefits of using trees on farm for productivity, profit and the environment; and 3 career snapshots that explore the day-in-the-life of a forester, environmental forester (ecologist) and wood processing cadet.

While waiting to take your students on these new virtual reality tours, explore the existing forests tours and virtual experiences looking at the lifecycles and seed to shelter journeys of pine and spotted gum forests.
